5. BAGGAGE INCIDENTS

BAGGAGE INCIDENTS

Lost or mislaid baggage

  • If your baggage has been mislaid, before you leave the arrival airport’s baggage claim area, you must fill in a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) form in the arrival airport itself to start the search for it.
  • Go to the Lost and Found office of Wamos Air or its handling agent (Iberia in Madrid, Menzies in Cancún and Swissport in Punta Cana).
  • They will also provide you with a letter containing instructions and explanations on what to do from that time on.
  • As soon as your baggage is located, you will be notified via the telephone number you noted in the Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.).
  • The arrival airport will work on finding baggage for up to five days (inclusive) after the date of the P.I.R. After this date, our baggage centre will be responsible for searching for and claiming it.

Damages

  • If your suitcase(s) suffer(s) damage that affects its function of protecting its contents, you will need to fill in a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.) in the Lost and Found office of Wamos Air or its handling agent (Iberia in Madrid, Menzies in Cancún and Swissport in Punta Cana).
  • We remind you that in accordance with the Regulations, we do not provide compensation for dents, scratches, stains and/or broken handles, belts and/or wheels.

We remind you therefore, that in the event of a checked baggage incident (loss, late delivery or damage), immediately and before leaving the baggage claim area where the passengers retrieve their baggage, the owner of the baggage in question must go to the incident counter in the area to formulate the corresponding complaint in writing at that time. He or she will need to fill in a form called a Property Irregularity Report (P.I.R.). This is a necessary requirement for recording the incident so that it can be processed by the Airline.

If this P.I.R. is not drawn up, the company will not be able to accept any liability for the baggage, in accordance with the provisions of Article 31.1 of the Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules for International Carriage by Air signed in Montreal, dated 28 May 1999, and Article 3.1 of Council Regulation (EC) No 2027/97 of the Council of 9 October 1997.

6. BAGGAGE RECOMMENDATIONS AND PROHIBITED PRODUCTS

BAGGAGE RECOMMENDATIONS AND PROHIBITED PRODUCTS

Before setting off for the airport, check the specific limitations on the maximum number of items, measurements and weights applying to the carriage of your hand and checked-in baggage with Wamos Air, according to whether you have a Business or Tourist Class ticket.

Passengers are allowed to take certain items of low weight and volume (an umbrella without a point, hand bags, cameras, etc.) onto our aircraft as hand baggage, provided that they do not exceed certain dimensions or weights, which may be indicated on your ticket.

Products prohibited from hand baggage

For reasons of safety, there are a series of items which are prohibited in an aircraft cabin. Therefore, these must be checked in as hold baggage (provided their carriage in the aircraft’s hold is not also prohibited). Among these prohibited items are:

  • Liquids: the amount of liquids or substances of a similar consistency that passengers can take with them when they pass through security checks in European Community airports is restricted.
  • Firearms and arms in general.
  • Sharp or bladed arms or objects.
  • Blunt instruments.
  • Explosive and flammable substances.
  • Chemical substances and toxic substances.

Security personnel may deny you access to the boarding area and the aircraft cabin if you are in possession of an item that, while not considered prohibited, arouses their suspicion.

Products prohibited in hand baggage and checked-in baggage

Although it may surprise you, some apparently inoffensive products can be hazardous on board an aircraft if they are included in your baggage, due, for example, to the changes in temperature and pressure and the aircraft’s own movements. Due to this, you may not carry the following products in your baggage, for example:

  • Explosives (including detonators, fuses, grenades, mines and pyrotechnic products).
  • Gases: propane, butane (including small camping gas cylinders).
  • Flammable liquids (including petrol and methanol, paints, solvents, glues and lighter refills).
  • Flammable solids and reactive substances (including magnesium, matches and lighters, fireworks and flares).
  • Oxidising agents and organic peroxides (such as bleach and abrasives).
  • Toxic and infectious substances (rat poison, infected blood).
  • Radioactive material (including isotopes for medical or commercial use).
  • Corrosives (such as batteries for cars).
  • Parts for a motor which have contained fuel.

The list of prohibited items is available from the Airport at the check in counters.

An exhaustive list of items prohibited from carriage as hand baggage and/or checked-in baggage can be consulted below.

7. DECLARATION OF VALUE

DECLARATION OF VALUE

If you check-in fragile, perishable or valuables items:

The Company accepts no liability for possible damages which may be suffered by fragile items checked in (glass bottles, paintings, handicrafts, delicate objects, etc.), perishables, coins, foreign currency, works of art, precious metals, silverware, deeds or other items of value, expensive garments, optical and/or electronic appliances, cameras of all types, musical instruments, toolboxes, business documents, negotiable securities, samples and shares, passports and other documents, any object of value, poorly packed sports equipment, beyond the legally established limits. The passenger will be able to invoke a higher level of liability by making a special declaration, at check-in time at the latest, and paying a supplementary fee.

If you wish to check in baggage for any Wamos Air flight for which you wish to make a special declaration of value, you will need to proceed according to the following rules:

  • You must notify Wamos Air or the Tour Operator, through your Travel Agency, of your intention for Wamos Air to receive, in writing or by e-mail, your request indicating the passenger and flight data and the information on the baggage to be declared with a minimum of 48 hours notice.
  • You will also need to check in sufficiently early as to allow the steps detailed below and, in any case, 210 minutes before scheduled departure time.
  • To make use of this service, you will need to have and present the original receipts for the items you wish to declare in this way, in order to prove their real value objectively.
  • Before checking the baggage in and as an essential requirement, you will need to open your baggage in the presence of personnel designated by Wamos Air in order to confirm the presence of the quantity and the condition of the items referred to, and to show they have the specified characteristics.
  • Subsequently, you will need to close the baggage by lock and key, padlock and/or combination lock in the presence of the personnel designated by Wamos Air.
  • The baggage must be delivered personally and directly by the passenger him- or herself.
  • The permissible limits shall be a minimum of 1,000 SDR (~€1,200), but shall not exceed US$5,000 or a similar exchange value in any case.
  • The provision of this service carries a charge of a percentage of 15% of the declared value, within the previously stated limits.
  • Checked in baggage with a declaration of special value will not be accepted when this baggage needs to be transferred on connection to be transported by another airline. In these cases the passenger will need to check the baggage in again with the other company at the transit stopover.

8. ANIMALS AND PETS

ANIMALS AND PETS

If you intend to travel with your pet, before making your reservation please call our call center (+34 912181539) since transporting pets in flight is subject to space availability in both hold and cabin.

You will need to provide your own box for carriage. Your pet and its transport box will be weighed at check in.

Wamos Air will insist that you comply with the regulations on transporting animals at all times.

The boarding of animals on flights related to Cruises will be rejected, as they are prohibited on the ships.

A maximum of one per passenger and flight is permitted.

Animals must travel with documents, in the form of a pet passport or veterinary certificate, they must be identified by microchip or tattoo, and must be vaccinated (in certain countries, with antibody titration). You can find further information here. aquí.

When you book or purchase your ticket, whether through the airline or Travel Agency, it is advisable to specify your intent to take a domestic animal on board and find out about the specific conditions for their transport.

Pets in the cabin (only permitted up to 8 kg)

Duly prepared pets may on occasions travel with their owners in the passenger cabin, provided that the passenger attends to their care and transport during the flight and that they do not disturb neighbouring passengers.

It is advisable for the animal to have been bathed before the journey, as it may be rejected if its presence is unpleasant for the rest of the passengers.

Choice of seats in the emergency row to position them will not be permitted, due to the greater space in these rows.

The fee will be fixed according to type of flight: European destinations €50 and €100 Outside Europe, per journey.

Pets in the hold:

Pets will form part of your free baggage allowance and will generate a surcharge per kg if this allowance is exceeded, at the same rate as excess baggage.

Authorisation is always subject to the available space and weight after loading the other passengers’ checked-in baggage and their acceptance is furthermore with limited company liability.

The baskets or cages used to transport them shall be provided by the passengers themselves, taking into account that in addition to being sufficiently solid and strong, they must comply with the technical specifications demanded by IATA and bearing in mind that those considered too small for the animal transported will not be accepted.

The appropriate cage or transport container dimensions must allow the animal to be able to stand without its ears touching the roof and to be able to turn round and lie down comfortably.

It shall have a door and appropriate lock, ensuring that it cannot come open at any time during the journey.

The cage mesh shall not be too open, such that your pet can get its head or nose out, avoiding putting the people responsible for transporting the cage during loading or unloading at risk.

You will also need to ensure that it has a watertight floor to prevent water spills, with absorbent material, and verify that it has good ventilation through its four sides.

It is important that cage ventilation is ensured to prevent your pet from suffering a temperature imbalance or heatstroke due to lack of oxygen.

Finally, do not forget to put on the mandatory identification labels, indicating the correct cage positioning with the corresponding upward arrows and stating that it transports “live animals”, as well as the owner’s or responsible person’s data, address and contact telephone number of their accommodation at their destination.

Guide dogs

Dogs trained as guide dogs to accompany blind passengers may travel in the cabin whenever the passenger in question needs them for orientation to move around and where doing so is possible, except where prohibited by national regulations.

In this case the dog will travel together with the passenger in the place allocated by the crew, so as not take up a place and to travel without hindering the rest of the passengers.

Apart from notifying Wamos Air or your Travel Agency, no formalities are needed in this case. The animal just needs to be duly fitted with a muzzle, collar and lead.

You will not need to pay anything for its transport, either in the cabin or the hold, and there are no restrictions regarding its weight or size.
